  • Switch to E-learning

If you are a student who works alongside studies, the most convenient option for you is to switch to online learning. In that case, you can multitask and excel further in your career. It will also save you from excessive stress. Staying calm can save you from frequent burnout. You will be able to manage work and studies well so you won’t feel exhausted. 

Therefore, what you can do is get online education in your desired field. For instance, you can go for MPH programs online and similar online degree programs. It will keep you from feeling overwhelmed as you will have a flexible schedule and be able to manage your studies and job properly.

  • Get Enough Sleep

It is a common trend these days to study till late at night or pull an all-nighter in order to score high in exams. However, this might not be a beneficial step for your physical health. Moreover, the belief that studying like this will improve your grades is not backed by any scientific evidence either. In fact, it might make you perform less efficiently in exams due to a lack of sleep. 

Taking less than average sleep also has adverse effects on health. You must take 6-8 hours of sleep daily to ensure you aren’t exhausted due to restlessness. This is the foremost step in the prevention of burnout. 

  • Eat a Healthy and Balanced diet.

Your diet plays a significant role in regulating good physical and emotional health. To prevent burnout, make sure your diet is balanced and healthy. Take all the essential nutrients to provide you the energy to study efficiently and maintain a healthy work-life balance. As a medical student, a lot of study burden must be on your shoulders, and you might be working most of the day. Therefore, you need the energy to fully get through a hectic day and fulfill your duties.

Other than academic stress, a sedentary lifestyle can also be a cause of frequent burnout. A sufficient amount of physical activity is mandatory to ensure an individual’s well-being. Moreover, working out also leads to endorphins in your body. These are feel-good neurotransmitters for the brain. This is why it is believed that exercising aids in relieving stress.

The best way to manage workload is to make proper study schedules so you can adjust other activities in your timetable. Make sure you limit specific hours to study, dividing them according to the time and attention required by particular subjects. It is not a suitable approach to study all day without breaks. That will eventually lead you to burnout, and you will soon stop performing well academically. 

Devote appropriate time to your studies but make sure you do everything correctly. Furthermore, make sure to take out some time from your day for fun. It is okay to need breaks in between studies, and you should consider having them. Having a little fun would not keep you behind but rather keep you fresher and energized to study again. 

  • Indulge in Extracurricular activities

Make sure your life is about more than just studies and books. Try to get involved in extracurricular activities practiced in your medical school. It will relax your mind, and you will often get a very-needed break from your strict study schedule. You will also be able to perform better, and it will save you from burnout. 


Medical students face a lot of stress and challenges while trying to achieve their goals and ambitions. However, mental peace comes before anything else. Medical students can save themselves from exhaustion and burnout by taking care of themselves, fixing their sleep cycle, checking their diet, practicing self-care, doing fun and extracurricular activities, etc. You will only be able to achieve your goals if you stay mentally and physically well.
